April 29th! Hello Baby boy

Its A BOY!!!!

Exactly 3 weeks ago today, we welcomed our sweet baby boy into the world.
It has taken me 3 weeks to get around to telling his birth story but here it is…

April 29th, started like every Tuesday as the previous few weeks. I woke up early, ran through the shower, and went for my weekly OB check up (9am). This was my 40 week check up (I was 39 and 6).
Was still at a 1-2 CM so I decided to let her do a Stretch and Sweep (stripping of the membranes). I swore after my OB did this twice with Hadley (with no results) I would never do it again because its incredible painful and in my experience, pointless but I was ready to meet this baby! It hurt as bad as I remembered but totally worth it this time (I will get to that later)! Baby wasn't moving much so she put me on the monitor for 20 minutes. Baby looked perfect and I headed home.
I picked up G and the girls and we headed to Warman for a play date with Morgan, Lindsey P, and the kids. On the drive out there my contractions started! I wasn't completely sure if they were contractions or just cramping (which is normal) because of the Stretch and Sweep so I started timing them. They went from 7 minutes apart to 5 minutes apart within an hour! It was time to get to the hospital!!!
We dropped the girls off at Morgans and headed for the hospital.
We were checked in right away and were in triage getting checked, I was at a 3-4 and contractions quickly got to 3 minutes apart! I am not going to lie, I was starting to panic! It is something you can never explain fully to someone who hasn't been in active labor but your mind just goes to mush! You can't think, you can breathe, you defiantly can't reason or have a logical thought, you just panic (and say crazy stuff)! And for me for some reason when I am in that kind of pain (there is nothing to compare it to) I get incredibly HOT! I mean I pour sweat and feel like I am going to have heat stroke and pass out! We are now in the labor and delivery room waiting for the epidural and I am begging for them to open a window (they don't open) but I knew it was freezing outside and I just needed to cool down! My resourceful husband finds a huge tote and takes the lid off and starts to fan me! It was amazing! Turns out it was the lid to the hazardous waste bin (haha) but it was helping! The anaesthesiologist walked in, took one look at G fanning me with this lid, kind of chuckled and said "well that is a first"! Thankfully he worked very quickly and soon was my best friend!!!! Ahhhh, relief! God bless modern medicine! It was around 1230/1PM at this point and now it was a waiting game… Waiting for a doctor to come a break my water. They said she would be in around 4pm. The next few hours were 'ok' except my epidural started to wear off and the panic was setting in again… They came in and topped me up and I was good again. The doctor made it in just after 6pm and broke my water.
The nurses said let us know when you start to feel pressure. Ok, I have had 2 kids, I know the drill.
I can honestly say I never felt 'that pressure'. My contractions came back with a fury and the last hour or so was not pleasant. The doc (resident) came in around 8:20 or so to see how things were going, ask if I felt pressure, I said no just contractions… She asked if I wanted to be checked and I said why not. She checked me and said "oh, we have a babes head, do you want to push?" Of course I would! Lets get this baby out! The nurses came in, they set everything up, called the doctor (the resident was who checked me). She said we would start without him and he would be in right away. Well 3 pushes (less than 5 minutes) and our baby boy was welcomed into the world at 8:39 PM. The resident was amazing and when the doctor on call finally came in I was happy it was the resident that delivered because the on call doctor was NOT pleasant. He was there for 2 minutes and gone (thankfully) I got the impression the nurses were happy he was gone too!

Roughly 9 hours of labor (would have been a lot less if I would have had a doctor break my water sooner) and Crosby Barry Dearle was here! All 7 pounds, 15 ounces and 20 3/4 inches of him!

The look on Graham's face when Crosby come out and was a boy was one I will never forget. Shock, happiness, joy, love, pride… I am not sure but it was priceless. It took me a second to find out because I heard him before I saw him! He was screaming! They put him up on me and I am looking at him and back at G with his laughing and crying and finally someone said it was a boy! It was pretty great! We honestly would have been just as happy if it was another girl, we were just happy that we had been blessed with another beautiful, HEALTHY baby.

We had visitors about 1 1/2 hours later! He is one loved little boy. People couldn't wait to meet him. :)
